I am an Iranian-Australian artist whose work spans printmaking, watercolour, and other mediums. My art, exhibited in both solo and group shows, explores the intersections of personal identity and cultural heritage. Since relocating to Australia in 2018, my work has been shaped by my experiences of travel, migration, and the memories that define my Middle Eastern upbringing and womanhood.
As a Middle Eastern woman, I address the subject of feminism in my art, striving to present a fresh perspective that avoids clichés. The works of Iranian female artists inspire me, providing a rich array of ideas and values that resonate with my own experiences.
In my artistic practice, I focus on social issues such as memory, nostalgia, translocations, and immigration. Through a blend of feminism, archives, and autoethnography, I explore personal narratives and reflect on the society I grew up in. Migration, a central theme in my work, deeply influences concepts of place, time, and spatial understanding. My print-based pieces often use repetitive processes to explore the nuances of belonging and the lasting impressions of cultural identity.
Through these works, I aim to convey the depth and complexity of the immigrant experience, exploring themes of belonging and the interplay between personal and collective memory.
